The Mornington VIEW Club recently celebrated its 21st birthday and the way its growing, it is destined for many more but has a way to go to catch The Smith Family who are 93.
It all began in 1922 when five men took gifts to a boys home after they recognised that not all people were as well off as them. When thanked by the boys they were asked their name they said they were Smiths, the Smith family was born. The Smith family has been opening doors for the disadvantaged ever since.
George Forbes was appointed general secretary in 1950. Later VIEW (Voice, Interest, Education of Women) was formed. The purpose, to provide a support network for women to meet in friendship and to support the work of the Smith Family.
The Smith Family recognised that education was the key to breaking the poverty cycle. The members of Mornington VIEW Club sponsor three Learning for Life students, offering financial support throughout their education.
VIEW recently celebrated its goal of sponsoring 1,000 students nationally - a significant achievement and a milestone in the history of the relationship between VIEW and the Smith Family. VIEW is proud to be The Smith Family's single biggest sponsor of disadvantaged Australian students.
