On a street where we live
Trudy Williams
When I first moved into Gladstone Park, the first person I met was my next door neighbour.
Fiona (Cracknell) was so welcoming and friendly it was like we knew each other already. Nothing was a bother and she was so happy to help. She has a glowing personality and is such a beautiful person. As people walk past Fiona always says hello to everyone. She loves seeing smiles on people's faces.
So, when lockdown hit, Fiona wanted to do some inspirational chalk drawings on the side walk. Things like “You can do this!” “Stay safe“ to then drawing the sun and stars and rainbows.

Fiona knew I liked hopscotch and did the hopscotch on the footpath which all the kids enjoy every time they walk past. Till one day she decided to do Peppa Pig for Emily (her 3 year old daughter) and that started the drawings. Bluey and Bingo and then the requests came in to do Bluey and Bingos mum and dad. Her cartoon drawing talent is amazing.
Our other neighbours join in as well and we will all be out the front helping in some way with stars, butterflies, unicorns, Peanuts and Charlie Brown on our footpath, Whilst I watch out for Emily.
Emily is so adorable and loves dancing and playing as mummy (Fiona) works her magic. It is a group effort. Often we will be out the front and hear people comment on the drawings. Children and adults do the hopscotch and it actually has gotten the neighbourhood closer than it ever was. People are very chatty now and when the hopscotch was washed away by the rain there were requests for that to be drawn again.
When we see children go past and notice the drawings and have photos taken, it makes Fiona's day. You can see her face light up. She didn’t think they were very good but we kept telling her they were fantastic and it gave her the inspiration to do more. So watch out. More to come.
